The margaritas and food were fabulous. The margaritas were made perfectly. No sour mix. Food was very good.

Here is the deal. The service is pretty terrible. They are all super friendly, but slow to take care of the customers, slow to notice if you need a fresh drink, slow on all levels. I'm rarely in a rush, so no big deal but it was very noticeable. The other issue that gets this place 2 stars is the HAIR IN MY FOOD. I told the server, they didn't offer me anything...no replacement food, no discount, no taking it off my tab. All she said was "gross, sorry".

Cilantro is a very authentic and lovely experience. The interior is spacious and bright, with a great bar. I often just stop in for a house margarita- they are delicious. I'd recommend stopping in during happy hour or when margaritas are on special, because you're going to want more than one. The staff is friendly. The owner is a vivacious woman who actually visits the tables and speaks with guests about their experience. She even gave me and my boyfriend a quick hug after a few visits during our vacation. The servers are great, too, and they share that vivacious quality the owner has. The food is insanely good. It tastes homemade, and you can tell these are family recipes. The portions are gigantic. The chicken mole was rich, sweet, bitter, spicy- everything a mole should be, and it came with a breast, a leg, and a thigh. The ceviche is a meal in itself and fresh and bright. Finally, the desserts are decadent and keep that homemade and family essence in every bite. For anyone craving margaritas and/or Mexican food, you need to go to Cilantro. One minor issue for some may be that there is no kids' menu. However, there were families dining in while I was eating. In some ways, it was a nice change of pace to see a crowd that skewed more mature. Definitely pop in for at least lunch and a drink.

Found this gem while in the area on business. How can you go wrong with $3 margaritas?! The food was fantastic. The guacamole was fresh and everything is authentic Mexican fare. The chef Gladys is so sweet and truly loves cooking. Mark The bartender is one great guy as well! He makes fantastic margaritas and is extremely personable! Do yourself a favor and check this place out!!

Loved this place! Food is good, drinks are amazing! Mark and Michelle took care of us and were so friendly, even though we had two kids with us! Highly recommend the mojitos!

The positives: Everyone's food tasted fantastic. I had the Enhiladas Suizas - good flavor, good portions, rice was a little overdone. My wife's pico de gallo was unbalanced - way too much onion. Kids meals were good. Unfortunately, they suffer from poor execution, like with the pico. Items on the menu are no longer served. The waiter admitted that the menus were quite old. They have no kids menus, but the waiter was able to tell us the kids meals options. Things were on time, but the place was not crowded. The waiter was a nice guy and did his job well, but he had a mediocre presentation - I was nervous the whole time that I was dealing with an unsupervised trainee. Nevertheless, he took our orders correctly and everything came out as it should. It's a place I would eat at again, but I wouldn't rush back here. And, there are better food options in this town.

Don't miss this wonder at the beach. Authentic Mexican food lovingly served by Mexico City natives Gladys and her son (the owners), and employees Giadita and Mark. We stop by for Happy Hour whenever at the beach. The margaritas are Gladys' own recipe, made with fresh lime and lemon juice: delicious and crisp. Be sure to order the ceviche for a real treat -- the portion is big enough to be light meal. Batter on the calamari is a little heavy for my taste. Stick with the Mexican dishes and you cannot go wrong.

Wow. Worst services I've ever had. The waitress is blaming the kitchen on being slow when the waitress is the one humming around. The food finally comes out in stages with a party of 6 - and orders are wrong. Food finally came one hour later and it was absolutely horrible. I would highly not recommend this place to anyone interested in decent Mexican food!!

Came here for lunch with my family, excellent authentic Mexican food! Fresh, bright, and beautiful. Chili rellenos were delicious! Mole sauce was to die for!

Cilantro is a gem of a restaurant. They have a great happy hour and the drinks are not only delicious but also very well made! The margaritas are the perfect end to a day at the beach. They also have 3 types of sangria all filled with fresh sweet fruit! The staff is all friendly and Mark the bartender is the nicest guy you'll ever meet.

Fresh! Fresh! Fresh! And delicious! Try this place. You will be happy you did. Yum!!!!!

Just don't. Even if you're hungry because this will disappoint you. It's not quite Mexican, rather a strange concoction of unidentifiable ingredients smothered in a sauce of sorts. Watered down sour cream, pre-packaged guacamole, sweet mole sauce....just keep walking.

  • Jackie J.

DELICIOUS!!! Had the guacamole, sangria, and enchiladas suizas....all amazingly good and authentic Mexican. Take it from this Latina...no Tex Mex stuff.....actual real Mexican food the way it should be. Our server was super nice and attentive, the owner a delight, and overall great ambiance.

Came here for lunch and it wasn't bad for me but my wife was not happy .. Lol!! They messed up her salad twice but who orders a salad at a Mexican restaurant. I got the mahi mahi tacos and it was good. So the 2 stars is because of my wife salad .. Maybe next time

  • Lauren T.

The mussels and guacamole tonight are insanely good. The wine is abreast pour. My partner thought the enchiladas were great too. Rice is authentic. Ask for the extra hot hot sauce... That is what we always get. They will personalize the dish for your desire.... My partner got no beans so extra rice....I always do extra beans no rice

My new dining rule: you can judge the quality of a Mexican restaurant by the type of tortilla chips they offer. In this case, when we got our ration of three stale corn tortilla chips in a bowl of guacamole, I should have known things would go downhill from there. Eventually we did get our own bowl of stale tortilla chips to add onto those three and had to request salsa. In addition to the stale chips, we waited a bit of time to get our drink orders in after being seated. Our server looked and acted like she wanted to be anywhere else but there, in fact there was a great deal of eye rolling from other servers when they stopped by to ask if anyone had helped us. Stale chips and ok guacamole aside, we came in here specifically for the tilapia fish tacos because nothing completes a day at the beach like some fish tacos and a cold beer in your belly for dinner, and we found this place by typing in "fish tacos" in the yelp app. What we got were three whole fried tilapia fillets plopped on top of tortillas (some of the fillets were larger than the tortilla) with red cabbage, limes and the mildest/blandest salsa on the side. I am not saying this because I am a San Diego fish taco snob, but seriously Cilantro you could have at least tried. How about some some cilantro lime dressing? Or how about some cilantro (it's your restaurants's namesake!)at least? How about making sure the fish filet fits inside the taco? So if you have a craving for fish tacos, enjoy good service, and happen to use the search term "fish tacos" in your yelp app in Rehobeth and this restaurant pops up, please keep walking.

Guacamole was alright. Nothing special and most certainly have had better. The chicken quesadilla was different, good, but different. I would skip it if ur in the mood for authentic Mexican, coming from an authentic Mexican. ;)

  • Brittany H.

There was water dripping from the ceiling into our guacamole, but before the matter, the guacamole was very delicous and the margaritas were only $5......I've never been to Dos Locos, that's probably where I will go next time.

  • Vickie S.

Jamaica agua fresca and tamarind margaritas! First off, those are not exactly common and the margarita was a special so I was pleased. Tamarind is a tangy, sour, sweet flavor and I loved it as a margarita. Delightful chilaquiles with a perfectly cooked egg. The guacamole is chunky, with a nice onion and garlic flavor. I felt like the food was made with a sense of both how to balance flavors and what is delicious and comforting southwestern food. We had excellent service and it was a great way to wait out the threat of rain on a nice day. My only complaint was the tortilla chips. Those were either definitely not your best effort or they were from a bag.

What a fabulous meal! Arrived around 8pm on a Thursday night--seated right away, although I don't understand why they don't have a crazy wait. Food is so fresh and service efficient and friendly. Their ceviche appetizer is one of the best we've ever had--loaded with fresh fish and avocado. Mahi-Mahi fish tacos were on special-- perfectly cooked fish served on corn tortillas and we raved about them so much, the owner sent out Glady's, the chef, who chatted with us about how she prepares the food. Don't miss this place!

Awful meal. My dad, a vegetarian, ordered a bean burrito. The waitress brought a beef burrito. We sent it back. The second burrito arrived, and after he started eating it, the waitress came over and notified us that the kitchen made a mistake and gave him a chicken burrito. The owner came over and apologized and tried to give us a voucher. We declined since we never intend to come back. She got a bit defensive and said it was one little mistake. No, giving a vegetarian who hasn't eaten meat in 20 years is a big deal and that response was poor customer service. To be fair, the owner took 10% off the bill and offered to give us dessert on the house (after realizing that we might be yelping about this). Also, very salty salad.

  • Ben S.

I came for happy hour and sat at the bar. Excellent and cheap house margaritas (they certainly didn't taste like the typical artificial mixers) and delicious guacamole served in a molcajete. I couldn't stay for dinner, but I saw many enticing choices, including mole. Definitely coming back.

Sometimes a craving for fish tacos will make a person do crazy things. Such as passing up legendary fish and chips. Maybe it was under those elevated expectations that Cilantro fell short. Probably not. We got lucky when we arrived, a table had just opened up in their front outdoor seating area and we had no wait to be seated. Getting water and our drink order placed was another story. Our chips, which arrived well after the guacamole we ordered, were stale. Tortilla chips are obviously just a vessel for salsa or guacamole. In this case a very stale vessel (insert ship/vessel joke here). The fish tacos were somewhere between "meh" and "eh". Extra star for cold Pacifico and great people watching on the patio.

Great authentic Mexican restaurant/bar! I recommend sitting at the bar if that suits you. Mark is the regular bar tender on weekends, and he's entertaining and a great host. The margarita selection is tasty and the food is as real and fresh as you can get. I had the fish tacos, and they were a "build your own" each (3 total) with a huge piece of fresh tasty whitefish. Cilantro, lime, tomato, slaw, beans, rice....I'm getting hungry writing this. They make their own chips and salsa, which I think are complimentary for bar patrons, or maybe we just bought enough liquor to justify a freebie!(didn't get a chance to taste the guac, but next time...). Relaxed environment if you are looking to get away from loud music or karaoke in your face.

The place smelled bad. Not good to start. Went to the bar, ordered margaritas, horrible.....too sweet..........decided not to go any further, and we left without ordering the food.........will not be back. Too bad Cabos closed in Rehoboth......it was the best!

  • Bill R.

Very good, authentic Mexican food, all fresh and house-made. The ceviche is so fresh the fish are practically still swimming in the citrus, with nice size chunks of various fish and shrimp. Well beyond the boring burritos and tacos of most Mexican places, this place offers up some unique and delicious cuisine without the crummy bean paste served on the side.

    (4)
  • Lauren O.

It's an average Mexican restaurant. Service was awkward. No one greeted us when we came in. Once someone finally acknowledged us, she said we couldn't sit where we wanted (even though there were empty tables everywhere) because the hostess said she it would mess with the system of giving servers certain tables. What?!? Food was overpriced and portions were small, but our entrees were tasty enough. Although I was not a fan of the chips and salsa. Chips had a rancid aftertaste and salsa was tomato water. Order extra guacamole, because they only give you a couple teaspoons. Sangria was weak and watery. I wouldn't go back. Go somewhere else.

  • Andy B.

What makes this place so special? Gladys does! All of the food is prepared home-style and is quite authentic, and Gladys (the owner) mixes up some great sangria and margaritas. Cilantro's on my list of places to visit every time I visit Rehoboth and is definitely worth checking out.

Love this place for fresh Mexican food in Rehoboth! The owners were so sweet: when they found out we were there on our honeymoon, they came out to greet us and wish us well. It was a very nice gesture! The beer was good, though not too many varieties. The food was great, and we'll definitely return to try other items on the menu. I liked my dish (a sweet & spicy pork), but I loved my wife's chicken cilantro dish. It was so light and fresh, I wanted to order another entree just so we could have more! It was delicious. We're looking forward to coming back again!

Pros: Chips & Salsa. Fish tacos. Excellent mojito. Cons: Bland rice. Overpriced. Chicken quesadilla disappointing. Outdoor seating not open. Poor bathroom conditions.

For such a great location on Rehoboth Avenue, you figure they would step it up a bit more here. This restaurant is mediocre at best. The service was pretty good for a Friday evening , but we surprised they were not busier. We didn't get off to a good start. The tortilla chips were partially stale and the salsa was very bland and substandard. Our main entrees were good except for the rice. Very plain, dry with no seasonings i.e. NO TASTE at all . Beyond that , the cuisine was good. Our server was a very nice young lady but she never asked us if we needed beverage refills, so I had to ask another server. They were not alcoholic, so I can somewhat understand why some restaurants aren't on top of their refills. If you are a connoisseur of Mexican cuisine (which I am not), I do not think you would give this restaurant a high rating. In general, this place needs to step it up if they what to be successful . The atmosphere, furnishings, décor and general presentation is definitely lacking.

There is no better choice for fresh quality ingredients and authentic dishes. This is not the place for you if you want cheap fast Americanized Mex food. Wine pours are generous and they give back to the community in so ways. Big in heart and they put their love into their meals and service. Support great food and best intentions.

This is probably the best option in Rehoboth Beach if you just want some simple Mexican food. Service is attentive with a solid simple inexpensive menu. Ceviche is tangy, fresh and plentiful. Table side guacamole and nicely simple prepared tacos and enchiladas. Also a favorite is the place offers Mole Poblano (chicken), which is real nice. A worthy easy simple stop for the area, dishes come out fresh and cooked perfectly and not with chain like portions or flavors.

Yum! Everything was delicious. It tasted like grandma herself was in the kitchen. Excellent red sangria, too!

Yesterday my friend n I went to this place for dinner. We chose to sit in the patio n obviously that was a big mistake. It took forever for our server to come take our order. We had to go find the server by ourselves for several times when we needed her. Also, my friend said ppl usually get free nachos while waiting for the meal. However, we got nothing. We even asked the server for it n she said it's coming. It never came. We felt the food was definitely pricy compared to the price we paid for. I don't know if my friend will ever come to this place ( she seems like this restaurant so she took me there) but I will never ever go to this restaurant again.

3.5 stars are you kidding me. Having eaten in a lot of east coast restaurants from Boston to va beach - at the beach this food is A! Seriously, try it, it is great.

I was in Rehoboth on vacation and after walking by, and being hungry, I decided to eat here. The waitress was none attentive. We waited a while before being approached, even though there were very few people there. I ordered the enchiladas verdes (one of my favorite dishes) and some horchata. I love horchata and I've had it from a bunch of authentic Mexican places but this was just over sugared milk with too much cinnamon. The black beans that came with my enchiladas were yummy but the enchiladas themselves weren't too flavorful. If you want to find good food, try to find local spots in the towns you are visiting. Cilantro is right on the main drag of Rehoboth and I'm not really sure if many locals eat there. It wasn't awful but I've had much better Mexican.

This was our first visit. The greeter was overwhelmed trying to prep tables and take walk ups in order. I'd suggest using a table planner, taking names and scooting groups back outside. The doorway gets too blocked - and the hostess gets too overwhelmed with lines of people trying to get on the non existent list. Despite this, we were seated reasonably quickly on the patio. The menu did not have allergy information and the server couldn't tell us as some of the dishes are made with ingredients that are prepared outside the restaurant. Dean had the Chilis Rellenos, which he liked. They weren't like what he had in Mexico but vastly better than what we generally see in non-Interior Mexican restaurants. I had the Tostadas Chilangas, which are on corn tortilla, mine were with chicken. Properly made here, these were light and not drowned at birth in velveeta. They were crispy, just the right hints of cheese and sour cream. This is a nice light meal. We had the house margaritas, which were standard fare anywhere. The server was excellent, and he brought everything out exactly on time and correctly sequenced. The kitchen was a bit slow but at 8 pm on Saturday evening in August, that's perhaps not surprising.

Very cute home-style restaurant, with a nice grandma cooking in the kitchen! The guacamole here was some of the best I have had - and definitely worth the $10 price tag. My entree was divine - spinach enchiladas in a tomatillo sauce, seriously garlicky, but so so good - and different from a traditional enchilada. I think I will have to try to make this at home! They also have a cute patio in the back that is perfect for a few small tables. Loved it here!

We went there last night...service was slow..good took a long time. We had our 2 sons with us and they were starving. We asked for more chips for the table and they charged us $3 for the chips and it was their fault the food took so long..We went here last year and the food and service was awesome..must be new managers..she was rude to her wait staff

3.5 stars Visited on a Tuesday night during the winter...so no crowd to speak of, understandably. Was greeted warmly at the door and sat at the bar to enjoy their all day happy hour. Partook in a couple of Dogfish IPA's and a 2.50 Chicken Taco...the beer was cold and delicious and the taco was made with fresh veggies and a nice tangy chicken. Inexpensive and friendly, I enjoyed my time here.

  • R.B. D.

Great location, great open air porch for dining and people watching, poor quality food and slow matter-of-fact service. That about sums it up. I get the feeling they want to focus mainly on the adult, night time bar scene rather than midday lunch. Skip it.

  • Shelby S.

Good drinks, but literally kicked us out of our table because they had a reservation in 30 minutes with an almost empty restaurant except for the bar. Good drinks though if you can snag one of the 8 seats at the bar.

We were looking to try a restaurant in Rehoboth we hadn't been to before. Cilantro fit the bill, so our family of five came here on Saturday night of Mother's Day weekend. The hostess was very kind to prepare a table for us and we were excited to order our margaritas. Well, 20 min later, we had to beg the waitress, then eventually the owner for our drinks. (Chips, salsa and guac had come and gone and we were SO THIRSTY!) Luckily, the margarita and food (fish tacos, spinach burrito, enchiladas) were delicious, so they redeemed themselves. And the owner felt bad about our major drink delay and brought us drinks on the house. We definitely didn't need more alcohol at that point, but it was a nice gesture. Definitely eat here, but be prepared for service that isn't nearly as good as the food.

Went with a very large group during an off season weeknight and they had no issues accommodating us. The pitcher of margarita was great and the four of us who shared it got two glasses each so it was well worth the price. Food was very good and fresh, no one had any complaints and considering there was 13 of us I think that in itself is an accomplishment. Service was very friendly and fast and handled our large group with ease. Can't beat the prices!

  • Rick F.

I don't know if it was an off night or this was their normal way of doing business. The food was poor and the service was horrific. One person had a food allergy, and her order arrived with tomatoes (the food she has the allergy to), on another dish we asked to substitute the fries with beans and it came with fries, and on another dish, the meat ordered was steak and it came with chicken. It took over 45 minutes to get our food, and we felt the waiter was telling one lie after another as excuses.

Great food and very great service! I had the chicken fajitas - which were amazing. Their homemade salsa is also incredible. My group also had their ceviche appetizer which was excellent as well. Definitely worth going too!

don't bother with this place. Good food and service if the owners there, but holy crap bad service and check ups from The tatted server, was drinkless until I asked for a refill Ceviche was good. enchiladas, steak tacos, and fish tacos. Were a big disappointment. I'd prefer Go Brit down the street or chipotle for better burritos/tacos at half the price. 2 stars for the happy hour but no one looked happy. Oh well, was good a few years back, especially if the owner comes and greets/takes care of you.

BEWARE OF RANDOM UPCHARGES ON THINGS THAT SHOULD BE FREE. Yesterday 8/6/2012 was my first and last visit to Cilantro (unless they get their act together and adhere to something called CUSTOMER SERVICE, HONESTY and PROFESSIONALISM). As always, it pains me to write negative reviews but Cilantro definitely deserves it. I would echo what many have said and avoid this place all together. Yes, I was THAT annoyed. I was in Rehoboth for a meeting yesterday afternoon and wanted a decent Mexican meal for lunch. I was originally going to try Mariachi or brave the wait for Agave in Lewes, but decided to give this place a chance since it was down the street from the meeting site. It was around 1:30pm when I came in for lunch... worst. mistake. ever. Nobody was there to greet me at the front of the restaurant, so I walked towards the bar area and flagged down one of the waiters. He seated me by the window and handed me 2 menus (one lunch, one regular). Soon afterwards, my drink order was taken. I decided to try the margarita de la casa, which was probably the most redeeming thing I ordered since it was made with REAL lime juice and sweetened with agave nectar. No lie... it was good... and it was STRONG. One good note: I was pleased to see the owner walking around and asking people how they liked their food. But then, when the problems arose, she disappeared... Whatever happened to the obligatory chips and salsa? Nope. Had to ask for it and he didn't bring it over until 2 minutes before my meal arrived. The chips tasted stale and the salsa was just not up to par... Chi Chi's, anyone? My meal was decent, although a lot smaller than I thought it would be. I decided to branch out and order the chilaquiles con carne asada (a $4 up-charge) with dos huevos, salsa verde, refried beans and queso fresco. The food was decent with good authentic flavor, a nice Mexican brunch for a lazy Monday afternoon, but the amount of carne asada that I got was meager and so not worth the $4 up charge. I've been to Mexican places where you would pay around the same ($12) for a meal and have carne asada strips piled on top of your order. Not so the case here... What really ticked me off was before I even finished eating, the waiter came by and slammed the check down, asking me to take care of it when ready. I finished eating a few minutes later and upon opening the check, he rushed over and tried to take it from my hand. I then questioned him about why he was trying to rush me and what if I wanted to see the dessert menu. He looked at me as if I had 7 heads... and then said that the restaurant was "really busy" and he didn't have time to offer me dessert. I looked around and saw at least 3 other waitstaff plus the owner walking around, serving people... and the restaurant was only HALF-FILLED. Hmmmm... I then asked him why the carne asada was listed as $5 when it clearly stated $4 on the menu. He seemed annoyed and said that the menu is subject to change. I told him point blank that this was misleading and that if that was the case they should change the menu all together. He kept saying that that's what the computer says and he had no control over it. I was certainly annoyed, so he offered to have me talk to the manager... and then, literally 30 seconds later... (when the manager was no where to be found) he came and said they would take $1 off. He then handed me another menu (lunch menu with dessert) and asked me to order from there. Sorry, but with a price range of $6-9 for flan, tres leches, and ice cream, you can keep your dessert and I will go elsewhere. When I declined, he handed me the new check and I paid, giving him only a 10% tip for taking the $1 off and left. Before leaving, I saw the people sitting next to me complain to him about a random up-charge of $2 for a tiny portion of sour cream (which was supposed to be included in the meal). This lady slammed her check down and exclaimed "I'm never coming back." If that is indeed how Cilantro treats their customers, then I'd happily take my money and appetite somewhere else.

A very off night to eat at Cilantros. The kitchen staff was cooking very very slowly and the server totally messed up our order. One diner is allergic to tomatoes and asked that tomatoes be excluded from her meal. Her burrito was filled with them. Another diner ordered steak tacos and was served chicken. Feedback to the server was met with an apology and an explanation that the printer in the kitchen was not working. Really???? The server could have comped a dessert or appetizer for the long wait for food ( 1 hr) and the order mix ups . I will not be returning.

It seems like there are a lot of Mexican places in this area, but the menu caught our eye as more authentic. We started with a couple of cocktails - I had the red sangria and my boyfriend had a margarita. Then we had the guacamole, chips, and salsa. Guac tasted fresh and still had some chunks of avocado which is nice. I ordered one of my favorite meals - chicken enchiladas with Mole sauce. They called it "Poblano" and found out why! It was more spicy than any other Mole I have ever had. The queso blanco on top helped with the heat. Once I got past that, I loved it! I finished everything on my plate. The rice was very good as well. Skipped the beans. My boyfriend had a steak dish that came with plantains which was recommended by our server. He seemed to enjoy it very much as well. It was a little later in the evening on a Tuesday so it wasn't very crowded but walking past it at other times, it seemed more busy.

On Memorial Day weekend: we put our name for 8 people and the wait was for 1hr, after an hour we went back and THEY RAN OUT OF FOOD!!! What kind of restaurant runs out of food on a Holiday weekend??!!! We complained to the manager and they said we could come back but they don't have everything ... needless to say we went to a different restaurant called Mariachi and the service was perfect! Please avoid their ignorance! Have a great weekend!

So refreshing to have a wonderful Mexican restaurant in Rehoboth. They care about the food they put on the table!!! This is our second time here and it is just as wonderful as our first time!!! Seriously, this place is great! I have never been to a Mexican restaurant that puts as much into their sides as their main dishes! Normally you get canned refried beans and tasteless rice, not here! Their rice is so lite and fluffy and you get wonderfully delicious black beans! Even my husband who will tell you he doesn't like black beans devoured them!!! Seriously, this place is wonderful!!!!

Really good! We had the tacos callejeros mmmmmmmmmmmmmm bomb with this spicy sauce they have. And we also had the taquitos durados so fresh and great. The food is no doubt fresh, great margartias. The service is friendly and the place is very clean. We had a great time.

I come here every time I am in Rehoboth. Excellent food and consistent quality. Good decor and a lot of room. Get a pitcher of their margarita

I was skeptical because the restaurant was empty and I don't know why. The margaritas were excellent. My ceviche was the best I've ever had and I've had a lot. I literally emptied the bowl - including the lettuce and sauce. My companion had the mussels in red sauce. The sauce was delicious. Balanced and nuanced. We sat at the bar and Erin was attentive and speedy. Highly highly recommend!

We originally visited here at the suggestion of a friend who knew the owner on their initial week of business and so gave them a pass when the food was just "ok". When we return to Rehoboth this year, we decided to try it again. What a mistake! The salmon was not seasoned, the black bean side was not seasoned, the rice was dry, the steak was supposed to be medium, and came out well done. My daughter ordered the spinach and cheese burrito from the vegetarian menu and received spinach and chicken...WHAT!!!... the side of buttered corn held a total of two teaspoons of corn and four tablespoons of liquid. When we pointed these deficiencies out to the waiter, his response was to tell us to come back during the off season as during the season things are busy so the quality goes down. My response, a blank stare...you're kidding me right? Will never eat there again.

For Mexican food in Delaware, not a bad choice. It will never add up to that found in California or Texas, but for the area... The sangria was fantastic, the guacamole well seasoned, and the menu varied. The ceviche was probably the only dissapointment, not enough acidity. And despite the name, they didn't heavy hand the cilantro in the dishes.

Coming from the southwest - I'm very familiar with traditional Mexican food ( not tex mex). Cilantro is the real deal, through and through. Fantastic mole, great guacamole, and if you get the chance to try Gladys' tamales, do not pass them up. One of my favorite places in Rehoboth.

Absolutely amazing. 'twas as if el diablo and the rancho chupacabrag had a gunfight on my tongue. A true Mexican delight. I had the veggie enchiladas! So good! And the sour cream is like the male love juice of that Jewish kid they nailed to the cross awhile back. Pure awesomeness. They make it home made daily with a secret Mayan ingredient that can only be understood by the ancients and the untold orders of the highest tribal priesthoods.

Tried Cilantro on our never ending quest to find "our" mexican restaurant at the beach and came out divided. I really enjoyed my meal and the experience, but the spouse said "meh." We got sat right at the front window off the main drag which made for great people watching. The service was good, they warned us the food would be delayed because a large party caused a back up in the kitchen, but the food came very prompt. The salsa had a good kick, but was a small serving for two and watery. Margaritas were strong, house margarita was kind of pricey if not ordered at happy hour. They had a nice vegetarian section on the menu. I got spinach enchiladas which were very very good, the spouse got a vegetarian burrito and didn't think it was anything special. They brought out tomatillo sauce when asked for hot sauce. I love tomatillo salsa, but it's not hot, so the spouse docked major points for that. I have no complaints about my meal, I'd definitely go back for happy hour or dinner.

We stopped in for lunch on a beautiful day and sat outside on the patio. The Shrimp Tacos (3, with rice/beans, fresh salsa) were very good as were the Tilapia Fish Tacos (3; only rice and fresh salsa; I think they ran out of black beans). We ordered the Queso as an appetizer which was to include mushrooms, chorizo and peppers, but it was pretty skimpy on the latter items. I think we found two pieces of chorizo. We ate it all though but I would only give the Queso 2-3 stars. I likely won't eat here again, only because of the pricing. $19 for shrimp tacos as "the special" and $15 for the fish tacos, which is the highest we have ever paid for the same items we have ordered elsewhere. I realize this is a beach community, AND this restaurant is on the main drag, but I think the prices could have been a bit more reasonable. Service was fine and the restaurant was clean.

We stopped here during "happy hour" for a cool refreshment on our walk back from beach. Well, happy hour turned into happy several hours! The margaritas were soooo delicious!! The staff were very friendly.

Server was nice, some in our group had mixed reviews on the food, however by burrito was good but the rice was not;-( The owner, who works in the kitchen, was extremely nice. To finish off on why this is a one star rating....Have you ever seen bar rescue or any other show like that? That's all I've gotta say about that;-(

I was walking the boardwalk when I spied some ladies having a fabulous time mid afternoon on a Saturday in the window of Cilantro. I though happy hour in the afternoon sounds great....and it was. I didn't eat at Cilantro because I just came from lunch, but the drinks were fabulous...and I tried more than a few! I was so impressed by how warm and inviting the decor was. The staff bent over backwards to please customers and the drinks...again: Sangria, white sangria, margaritas, mojitos... excellent.

What a great find! We stumbled across Cilantro for lunch this week. Soooo glad we did! We had 5 small children with us. Instead of getting the typical eye roll upon seeing the kids all under the age of 5, the wait staff could not have been more friendly and accommodating. The margaritas were amazing, the civeche was out if this world and the fresh guac was perfect! The kids had a great time and the owner took time to chat with us and compliment the kids behavior. It was the first authentic Mexican meal since our visit to Cozumel. Later in the week during a rainy day, instead of trying out another restaurant we went back to Cilantro. This time a pitcher of margaritas and amazing mole sauce hit the spot! Gordon was a great server and recommended several great drinks and meals. Cilantro will definitely be part of the routine every time we visit Rehoboth!

The fish tacos are what lured me in. They were grilled (as they should be) and topped with spicy cabbage. All in all they were very good, though only wrapped in a single corn tortilla, rather than two, which left them falling apart in my hands. Still, they were better than most that I have tried and I would eat them again.

This place is very new so I plan on giving it another chance. It took forever for our group to receive our food. I had the fish tacos which were fair. The white sangria was very good. The overall atmosphere was very fun, live jazz music on Fridays. So the bottom line this place has potential, but needs some improvment.

This was our second visit and it was amazing. Have had a variety of appetizers on each visit and the freshness of the food really stands out, same with the house margarita.....it's not a mix it's the real deal. The food is not your typical tex-mex. Both visits we sat at the bar. Cannot wait to try their lunches and dinner items. Authentic Mexican food is outstanding!

We wont be going back. The four of us sat at the bar. No one steady was supporting the bar, so whoever walked by, if we got their attention, served us. The staff was overtly arguing, very intense conversations in front of customers. Very uncomfortable. It was difficult to get a second round, and finally, when we ordered the order came incomplete. We wanted more food, but decided to call it quits. One of the waitresses gave a cursory apology for the service. My husband believed the margies to be from a mix. The quesadillas were routine. There are so many restaurant options, no need to go back here.

I'm giving this place 5 stars in spite of the fact that I think the service I got was a little lacking, but I am very understanding because they were short staffed. Therefore, it isn't fair to judge them on that. The servers were very nice and friendly, but like I said, they must have been shortstaffed because it was difficult to grab a hold of someone and once or twice what we asked for had been forgotten about and we had to go ask again. That said, that shouldn't be the norm, and they really are very eager to please and give you a great experience. Very nice and accommodating staff. Now on to the far more important things....THE FOOD WAS AMAZING. I am a connoisseur of Latin American food, especially Mexican. Cilantro has a fusion of classic authentic Mexican (no not the rice and greasy beans you get at the local El Azteca... Although that is a type of authentic Mexican...). My preference is the Mexican food found in Mexico City and big cities, where the focus is on freshness, color, and flavor. Here, you will be thrilled to find some staple ingredients like rice and beans mixed in and used as a basis for some dishes, including plenty of seafood in dishes that looked brilliant. I am vegetarian, so I was ecstatic to see a veg section (a whole section!!!) on the menu. Inside, my husband and I were escorted to a lush and clean patio, where the cool night air and fantastic music made for a highly enjoyable outdoor seating experience. The chips and salsa are fabulous, using the much less common (but much more flavorful) fresh salsa incorporating pico de gallo in a liquidy base, with, of course, plenty of cilantro. Fresh and refreshing! The chips are the big kind that don't break easy. Love it. My vegetarian burrito sounded fairly simple, but I was pleased to see a beautiful presentation when it came out. Additionally, even the rice was different in a really delicious way. And my burrito plus my guacamole were amazing. If you like drinks, this place has amazing ones. Everyone who got the mojito complimented it to the waiter enthusiastically. I'm sure the sangria and margarita are great too but they are slighly overpriced I thought, so I didn't get any drinks. So many colors and flavors! So fresh! And love the outside are! I will be going there again!

We love Mexican food and wanted to give this place a try. This was honestly the best Mexican restaurant in Rehoboth and beat out most other mid-atlantic Mexican restaurants. The drinks were spot on and we sampled wonderful margaritas, mojitos, and sangria. We started with cerviche, which was full of plump shrimp and seafood with just the right amount of seasoning. The menu for entrees goes far beyond the standard burrito and enchiladas of most places. Our meals were flavorful with the right amount of spice. Our service was great during our visit. I wish Cilantro was closer to home because this is the type of Mexican restaurant where I could become a regular at.

This was my first time walking in to Cilantro. They offer happy hour until 7pm at the bar - so it was 10 minutes before 7 so I headed up to the bar to grab a drink while my dinner partner spoke to the hostess to arrange our table. The bartender refused to serve me drinks at the bar because I would not sit there. I am not from this area, but I have never heard of this before. I clarified and said, you mean I can't order drinks here and bring them to my table? She said no. And moved away from me without further contact. As the hostess sat us, I asked again about their happy hour and she confirmed that it was only for the bar, and that I was not welcome to first enjoy a drink at the bar and then move to a table afterwards. My dinner partner and I walked out. My apologies that I am submitting this rating having never tasted their food, but their rude customer service put a bad enough taste in my mouth that I had no interest in giving them my business.

I went to Cilantro three days after it opened after seeing the enormous wait for Dos Locos down the street. Atmosphere-wise it was a complete 180 from Dos Locos: quiet, shady, and airy with a mural of fluffy clouds in a blue sky. The staff was anything but tranquil - they had three workers just not show up that day, and we had to wait for several minutes until someone even came out of the back to seat us. I really felt badly for the staff - the waiters were inexperienced and didn't speak English as a first language, and here they were seating, serving, and busing at the same time! They repeatedly apologized, then the eccentric owner came out and repeatedly apologized...they were almost apologizing too much. We got what was going on. But! We got our food, which was fine. My parents professed to like their dishes more than I liked my burrito macho, although the steak in it was tasty and tender and the salsa was really quite good. My mom's relleno looked pretty awesome. I hope this place gets a lot of business. The staff are lovely people and the food has potential.

Authentic Mexican food at reasonable prices. I had the vegetarian chiles rellenos, my son had the chicken taquitos and my mom had some kind of vegetable soup and it was all fresh and tasty. The service was excellent and my margarita was certainly the best I've had in Rehoboth Beach. I'll be going back next summer!

Did not enjoy Cilantro overall, because of the inattentive service. First, we arrived and they didn't bring us the lunch menu until I had to ask. it took a long while before we could order, and when we finally did, the service was inattentive. Water glasses went unfilled. The food itself was decent, to be fair. We were one of the first in the restaurant, so we were disappointed. We'll stick to other options in Rehoboth.

Worst service ever!!! Place looked very shady but we decided to eat here because there was an hour wait everywhere else. I had to ask for a water three times before my waiter brought me one. The waiter had no common sense and did not notice that we were all out of water. He finally brought a pitcher over but that was when we were ready for the check. They had a hard time replenishing our chips and salsa. The owner came by several times to say hello but also had a hard time figuring out latin restaurant 101 (replenish drinks, chips and salsa). Our party split the bill and it took them forever to do the math. The owner rolled her eyes at my brother in law when he was trying to calculate his portion of the tip. The only reason I gave it two stars is because the food was not that bad. If I were you, I would avoid this place and eat junk food on the boardwalk instead.

The food was excellent. We had chips, queso dip, and salsa to start. For entrees we had chicken quesadillas and the chicken burrito. You could tell that the food was freshly prepared and that great care was taken in cooking each dish. Upon leaving, we saw specials posted outside--our server had not mentioned them to us, which was unfortunate. We will definitely visit Cilantro again.

We had such a great experience at Cilantro! The food was amazing--fresh and so flavorful. I had the spinach enchiladas off the vegetarian section of the menu and they had no problem leaving a sauce off so the dish would be vegan. The enchiladas were amazing and the tomatillo sauce tangy and fresh. One of the owners even came by our table to ask us about how we were enjoying the meal. Service was prompt, and all the food very well-prepared. This place is a gem.

My absolute favorite mexican food on the east coast - thus far. Every time I am in Rehoboth Beach for a weekend, I make multiple trips. I haven't found an item on the menu that I did not like. The only thing that could use improvement are the strength are the margaritas - they need a little more alcohol. I recommend swinging by the this place, mexican food is perfect after a day on the beach.

Randomly picked this place one afternoon. Upon entering I wasn't expecting much. The outside of the building is kind of unassuming. Anyway after entering and being lead to the back of the restaurant I was surprised to an airy space with comfortable seating and lots of overhead natural light. The ambiance was something I'd expect from an Ocean Drive bistro not a random spot in Delaware so that was pleasantly surprising. The service was excellent overall. The hostess was nice and accommodating and members of the waitstaff were quick. I started off with a sangria with blueberries and strawberries in it. Literally every sip contained a chunk of fruit. Very delicious. I then had an EXCELLENT fish and shrimp ceviche. I'm not a big fan of fishy flavors, raw onions, or lemon juice.....but somehow I really enjoyed this. I guess it was the freshness of the flavors. The portion was big enough for this to be a salad substitute or a full on meal if you are on a diet/want something light. For my main course I ordered the macho burrito which is basically a standard mexican burrito with steak, etc. I didn't really enjoy this as much because the amount of lettuce inside the burrito distracted me from more essential flavors (ie:the meat, cheese, and spices). Also there was a semi-gross red sauce slathered over the burrito. The burrito was probably the low light of the meal and the server specifically recommended it so ....... My gf ordered a pork chop which was absolutely delicious. Combing this fact with the fact the ceviche was so impressive I'll have to give them the benefit of the doubt on overall quality of food. I think I just ordered the wrong thing off the menu. I'll give Cilantro a sturdy 3 out of 5. High marks for service, drinks, ambiance and food. Low marks specifically for how disappointed I was with my dish.

I love good food. I hate it when the menu does not match what is on the plate. I heard about Cilantro on this site, decided to check it out - I knew I was going to love this place as soon as I saw my margarita - a beautiful NOT footed glass. We had salsa and chips, the beautiful guacamole, and a few other apps. Everything was fresh, bright, delicious...the entrees were perfect..this is my (our) new favorite restaurant! the staff was wonderful....I can't wait to go back!!!

We were looking for somewhere to eat in Rehoboth on a Monday night in October for my wife's birthday... we had plenty of choices, but since it was out-of-season not all our favorites were open. We hopped on yelp and saw the reviews of Cilantro saying they had great, authentic Mexican food, so we decided to give it a shot. The food was delicious. I had the pollo en salsa cilantro, which was fantastic and had great flavor. My wife had the mole, which she was pretty happy with (although she said the pollo en salsa cilantro was better). My in-laws had a burrito and a chile relleno and thought they were pretty good too. The only draw-back was the service--our server was really friendly and helpful, but she wasn't around very much. We had to wait a long time to get our drinks after ordering and it took a long time to get our check after we asked for it (after hunting her down and asking for it). I'd have understood if the restaurant was really busy, but it wasn't. More attentive service would have made this a solid 4-star stop.

Went here with my family this evening because it came recommended through this website. Service was pretty good. The server was knowledgable about the food. He helped guide us into the right direction regarding entree choices. The food was delicious but found the portion sizes were a little small for the price paid. The margarita my mom had was also great but expensive for a 1800 margarita. The food was as close as you can get to authentic Mexican for the area, but if you're willing to spend the money for it, then it's worth it.

The only reason this place isn't getting 1 star is that the frank sintraesque live band was great, some of the food was okay and the server was nice when we saw her. But overall their service was a disaster. I went with a group of six on a Friday night. This is a group that usually eats pretty quickly...usually we get our three courses and are out in an hour. We were at Cilantros for three and half hours. We had to wait too long for everything..even getting the menus. It wasn't even crowded. Our waitress was also the bartender. Half of the food came out 45 minutes after the soups. It was all wrong, the other half came out another 45 minutes later. My mole poblano enchiladas were good, classic food, nothing particularly gourmet. But most other people at the table were very dissatisfied. Fish tacos were chewy, food was cold or bland etc. my desert was good, but it was clearly one of those frozen in a bag deserts - good, but you don't get to charge 10 bucks for it! Drinks were okay.. But we could never find any one to order them from. While the waitress did casually apologize, I got the feeling that she really did understand how bad of experience we we were being given. I had to get the check and then go to her to pay. Also after reading the other reviews, it seems being understaffed is a routine occurrence here! Overall the positives do not come close to overcoming the frustrations

We ate here on 11/12/2011. The food was outstanding. The flavorings were subtle and right on. This is not the heavy flavored, generic Mexican food prepared at so many east coast places, but the food of a loving Mexican chef. First about the food: We were more on the appetizer side starting with the Ceviche which was just delicious. We had the Queso Fundidi en Cazulea which was so flavorful, We had the Guacamole en Molcajete which was somewhat different that we have typically had in DC (Rosa Mexacano), but every bit as wonderful. Finally, we had the Chiles Rellenos Adelita - Ymmm. We wanted to have more of everything, but we were quite full. We enjoyed the house margaritas which tasted balanced and well made. The entire staff was very friendly and helpful. The owner came by a couple of times and she kept an eye on the overall experience for all of the tables. We will absolutely go here again next time we visit Rehoboth Beach. You should plan on going too,

Don't waste your time with this place. Best part was the sangrias at the start of the meal. Tasty, and the special price of $20 bucks a pitcher (usually $29) was a decent deal. Was all downhill from there. Thought it was a bit odd that we had to ask several times for what I assumed was the obligatory basket of tortilla chips and salsa. From there, two people in our group didn't receive their food until basically everybody else in the group had already finished eating. Food tasted only so-so and portions were not that great for the price. When we questioned the waiter about the poor service he blamed it on us with some BS excuses that aren't even worth repeating. We asked for the manager who then proceeded to also blame the service problems on us. Eventually she did take 20% off of our bill. Then, on the way out we heard another table complaining about the service. Not sure if the place was just having a bad night or what, but I'm not willing to ever go back and discover if they in fact have good nights.

It was our first and last time eating here. The salsa was tomato water so there was nothing on the chip when you dipped it, lunch was not hot, beans needed to be eaten with a soup spoon and the waitress was literally running around the restaurant. There are so many great restaurants in Rehoboth Beach don't bother with this one.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
